I have a strange problem here... windows can't play any
MIDI files, that includes but is not limited to: Windows
Noises (error noises, opening and closing windows,
startup sounds...), Flash Movie audio, AIM sounds...
However, i can play these sounds indavidually through
Winamp (i have winamp 3 installed). Everyone i talk to
is giving me the run around and telling me to go
elsewhere. I need some serious help. I have tried to
make new flash animations with new wav files but i can't
hear them either... The really weird part is that this
problem was not there when i first got the computer. It
seemed to have just happened randomly. I have tried re-
installing drivers and updating drivers for my soundcard
but that doesn't work... is there a hidden something
somewhere that is controlling this???

Try the two fixes at line 6, both left and right. "Restore system
default sounds" is self-explanatory. "Fix the ding.wav file" corrects
many sound problems.

Kelly also has a FAQ area on missing sounds, and an a-z area on
general XP matters.

Jon;
Winamp has probably taken over control of the file types. Open
WMP/Tools/Options/File Types/Check: MIDI file (midi)/and any others that you
want/Apply/OK.
