I am trying to share a folder over the network with only
certain people having access. I've made a user name and
password on the host computer and instead of getting a
login box I keep getting the error access denied. I also
made sure I set permissions within in the folder itself.
Any ideas
By default, Windows XP doesn't allow sharing files in the Windows,
Program Files, or My Documents folders. I think that's a bad design.
If you have Windows XP Professional, you can disable "simple file
sharing" and remove that restriction.
If you have Windows XP Home Edition, here are some simple solutions:
1. Run the Network Setup Wizard, which will create a "Shared
Documents" folder, and put the files that you want to share in that
folder, or:
2. Create a subfolder within My Documents, put the documents in the
subfolder, and share the subfolder.
