No local area connection

For some reason, my networking isn't working properly in XP. I installed a Linksys wireless adapter, and the driver installed correctly, but there is no local area connection showing up at all in my 'network connections' window. I ran the networking wizard, but it did not help. Why would there be no icons in my network connections window?

Does the device show up with a yellow symbol beside it in
Device Manager? If so, remove the device (shut down the
computer first...), uninstall the driver, and reinstall
the driver as per the instructions provided with the card.

Also, if you're using a wireless card, you'd have a
Wireless Network connection, not a Local Area Connection.
Just some terminology for ya.

Thanks for your time, Nick. No, there are no problems with the adapter in Device manager. No yellow sircles with exclamations marks, no questions marks, etc... I called Linksys to find out if I had done something wrong during installations, and they ended up telling me that there was something wrong with my XP networking. Tey took me through some steps that, according to them, should have placed a connection in my 'network connections' window, but nothing would show up.

Try reinstalling any adapter that shows up in device manager's network
adapters but not in the connections folder.

I am having this same problem but with a LAN connection. I can access the internet, shared files on a connected computer, etc. However, I cannot get connections to display in the network connections list. After refreshing, I am told that I should make sure that the Network Connections service is enabled and running. It is. I followed the advice to uninstall the network adapter and reboot to no avail. Therefore, I cannot make changes to network settings or my firewall (which is not enabled).

I ended up having to reinstall Windows. Everything is working fine now. I had tried reinstalling all the adapters and the like and there was nothing that was working
Thank you all for your time.
