No items using USB are recognized, such as Ipods to Itunes

Anything that uses USB to connect to the computer isn't being recognized or
ran. Device manager says that teh ports are working properly. I noticed
this when my Ipod wasn't being recognized in Itunes. This is a very
annoying problem and would love an answer.

First thing to do is uninstall the USB ports (controllers) and let XP
redetect and install the drivers on reboot.
