No internet connection after format/reinstall

I formatted my desktop computer's hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Home
today. Once the reinstall was complete, I was no longer able to connect to
the internet. My internet connection is a cable modem, connected to a
router. The router is connected to two computers - a laptop (the one I am
using now), and the aforementioned desktop computer.

Because this problem occured after I formatted the hard drive, I am
suspecting the problem is a software issue regarding one or more networking
components. Looking at the device manager on the desktop, there are two
apparently relevant devices which are not properly installed: 1) Texas
Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller; and 2) Ethernet
Controller. The 1394 Net Adaptor (a separate device) appears to be properly
installed.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thank you for your help.

You need to install the drivers for your motherboard and your network
adapter. Get the drivers from the respective devices' mftrs.' websites.
If your computer is an OEM machine (Dell, HP, Sony, etc.) get the
drivers from the OEM's website for your specific model machine.
