no incoming signal-->modem

situation: Wan't to replace dial-up service with DSL, dialup is working
correctly.

Problem: The wireless modem drecognizes the phone line signal, power, but
does not show incomming signal (LED is off from the front of the modem) from
the ethernet cable that is connected to the LAN connector on the back of the
computer.

Just a thought, is it a DSL modem?

It's possible you have a crossover cable instead of a 'straight' wire in
use. Looking at the plugs on both ends, side by side, will show the same
color set if they are right. It also may be that the cable or plug, or NIC
card is bad

Start/run, type DEVMGMT.MSC, and check for conflicts on the network card
device.
