i have a desktop computer with a standard 56k dial up modem using windows xp
OS ; no fax modem or fax machine connected to the dial up line. when i
receive incoming phone calls the caller hears a fax signal. the computer is
connected to the jack in the wall into "line in" of the computer. i have
checked the other phone check, same telephone number, and the same problem
happens. when i use my laptop - with window xp too- there is no problem. keep
in mind, that the fax signal occurs when the modem is not in use and the line
in plugged into the jack only. fax signal only occurs when computer is on,
not when it is off. the phone company says it is the computer and so does the
ISP. why is the computer transmitting a fax signal? have never had this
happen before. would appreciate any suggestions tia, ej.
