No IE in Add/Remove programs

Recently I have been getting an occasional error message when browsing.
"0x1001cd11" referenced memory at "0x1001cd11". The memory could not be
"read."
I seem to remember that there is a repair option for IE.

I thought that if I clicked IE in Add/Remove programs it would give me such
an option.
However, there is no listing for IE in Add/Remove.
I have the IE icon on my desktop, in Quick Launch and in the Start Menu and
have no trouble launching it to browse.
Am I getting confused with my old ME o/s or should I have IE listed.

Internet Explorer can be uninstalled and reinstalled from 'Add or Remove
Programs' by selecting the 'Add or Remove Windows components' on the left
side of the window. You will need your XP Disc to reinstall, and be logged
in as an Administrator.

I shall suggest you to scan your system with latest versions of
Spybot,Search and Destroy,CWShredder as well as Adaware.Run all of them
in safe mode.

It's not likely IE, but rather something that has integrated itself into it.

It won't be listed there. By default, Internet Explorer 6 is preinstalled in all
versions of Windows XP and cannot be removed.

In XP, IE will only appear under Windows Components.

But I have to agree with the other replies, it does sound more likely to be
an infection than a fault with IE itself.

Thanks to all who replied.
My main query was whether IE appeared in Add/Remove but you have answered
that. Still thought I could get a repair option there, must have got
confused after using ME for too long!

As regards error message - 0x1001cd11, it's only occasional. Googled for it
(nothing) but found this ref. in Yahoo
http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t16575.html.
Seems it could be something to do with Browser Helper Objects (BHO's) in Add
Ons.

All Windows updates installed.
Have updated and ran: Trend Micro AV, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware and CWShredder
(all clean).
Also, have updated SpywareBlaster running in background, so very doubtful to
be a nasty.
I'll take a closer look at Add Ons (BHO's).
