no icons on the desktop!

my friend give me his pc and he tell me that he don't see icons on the
desktop...he tel me also that probably he had a virus......in fct i found
netsky.c but now there are no virus and i don't see again the icons....
I try al possibilities (no active desktop.....show icons on the desktop...)
but there's no icon on the desktop...recicle bin....network...no icons!!!!!
