No Icons No Start No Taskbar- Solved Taking Screen Saver off

Hi
thanks to all for various solutions to this annoying problem. After trying
many things, we realized that the icons etc were not reappearing after the
screen saver went on. Went into Cpanel, Display, and took off the screen
saver and haven't had a problem in a week.

Forgot to mention, then reset the screen saver to "none". Apply etc.
Can anyone tell me what may have happened?

it was the default XP screen saver which was set to 20 minutes originally.
Had "windows" in it.

Are you stating that after de-selecting a or the screensaver in question it
was then set to none? If this is the case:

Check your setting for the screensavers path.

Here are some examples:

Marine Aquarium 2.scr > rename it to > MarineAquarium2.scr

In the registry, screensaver will work correctly if it is listed as so:
c:\windows\system32\marine~1.scr

Screen Savers do not work correctly if listed as so:
""c:\windows\system32\marine aquarium 2.scr""

If not, more info needed. Have never heard of the default Windows SS
causing the icons, etc to disappear.
