No icons in System tray

In the taskbar, there are no icons for sound, to remove hardware devices,
yahoo messenger and Memeo (backup software). Before, everything was working
fine and I don't know what changed it.
In control panel - sounds and audio devices, Volume, I Un-clicked
Place volume control in the task bar.. Clicked Apply. Re-opened and clicked
on
Place volume control in the task bar, Apply. The icon reappeared but I had
same problem after reboot.
In Task Manager, Processes tab, I see ypager.exe (for yahoo messenger) and
memeobackup.exe (for Memeo). I updated yahoo messenger, same problem. I
removed and resinstalled Memeo, same problem.
Also when I plug my iPod, I don't see the icon to eject devices.
It seems there is something wrong with my system tray, Can you help ?

Hello Jacques,

Right click the start button, then left click properties. You should be at
the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window. Now click the Taskbar tab, you
can uncheck the box "Hide inactive icons" and they should reappear if this is
the problem. You can also click on the "Customize button" and for each icon
you have in your task manager you can tell XP to Hide when inactive, Always
Show, or Always Hide.

I'm not sure if this is your fix but it's a good thing to try. Something
could have activated/triggered all of them to always hide.

Let me know if this fixes your issue.

Thanks,

Paul

Another option is to disable the SSDP Discovery Service and Universal
Plug and Play Device Host service. Go to start | run. Type in
services.msc and click ok. Scroll to each of those services, double
click it. If started click on stop, then change the startup type to
disabled. Ok out. Reboot.

It didn't work but the method of Rock worked.
By curiosity, why do you call yourself "once was MCSE" ?

I was MCSE Certified on NT4 but I had taken the IIS 3, which MS retired.
Once they did that I lost my MCSE. Nowadays they dont do this but that
wasn't the case when I had mine. I'm glad Rock's idea worked. I'm not
familiar with his method. I'll research it and learn it.

Thanks,

Paul

I think your a MCSE for life now or at least till they retire the MCSE NT4.
I'm going to work on my MCSA 2003, I'm currently a MCSA 2000, I'm working on
the MCDST now and have one more test to take.
