USB icon in system tray missing

For some reason the icon that one would clik upon for safe removal of a USB
device no longer appears in the bottom right tray location. I have been
having to go to the icon for the device via My Computer and eject the device
that way.

This a fairly fresh install of the WinXP Pro OS. My question is: how does
one get the icon back and, most importantly, how was it eliminated from
normal operations in the first place?

Thanks

Thank you for your help!!!!! Still don't have a clue why it went away in
the first place.

I thought this issue was solved with the regedit script file from the site
suggested in an earlier post, but it is not. While the script restores the
"Safe To Remove" ability upon execution, it is not permanent. In other
words, after I remove the USB device with the script just executed, I am back
to not having it available in the system tray the next time a flash drive, or
whatever is connected.

I still am very confused about why that feature ever disappeared in the
first place. To my knowledge, my wife or I were not doing anything with the
machine other than using ordinary, everyday software.
