Why is MS Antispyware not showing in my system tray any longer? It used to??
Task Manager is showing that GcasDtServ, gcasServ, GIANT Antispywar are all
running processes.

Can anyone tell me how to get it to show back up in my system tray?
Thanks,

Hello Jim,

Try these two solutions:

A) You can repair Windows AntiSpyware using Add or Remove Programs in
Control Panel. Click Microsoft AntiSpyware and click Change. Click Next, and
then click Updªte.

B) Use the Repair Function in the ADD / REMOVE PROGRAM section in the
Control Panel.

Then, try these steps:

1) Open up a command prompt (start -> run -> type in -> command)
2) Type in the following "regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll" (without the quºtes).
3) Close and re-open Windows Defender.

You can go ahead and do both of these--neither has any downside risk--and
see if that does the jºb.

Let us know whether it does, or nºt!

Well, wouldn't you know it!! After several system restarts it started showing
back up in the system tray again. It's magic,,, ain't it??!!! :>) Yuk! Yuk!!
It always makes a liar out of you doesn't it? :>)

In any case, I saved your response to the problem for future reference. If
it happens again I'll try the "B" solution. I already knew about your "A"
solution.

Thanks for the time you spent on it anyway. It is appreciated, you know.

Have a super day!!!

I thought I'd fixed the problem here but it keeps re-occurring. I run the
regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll command as you suggested and that fixes things back up
again but the next time I turn around it's not in the system tray again. And
so on and so on.......

Any other ideas??

Hello Jim,

try this:

Goto: Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs/MSAS
then click on support info!!!
Then click on repair!

If that wont work then it is really a XP problem,

I give a workaround for all the missing things in the systray:
Go to:
C:\Windows\system32\
and look for systray.exe, right click on it and make a shortcut
from it, then move the shortcut to the common startup folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\StartMenu\Programs\Startup\

Restart the computer.
