No Host Adapter found

I have been trying for a week to install a Microtek Scanmaker X6 scanner on
my computer. I have downloaded the drivers from the manufacturers web site
for XP, I have read forum reports that say that the INF folder is wrong and I
should add [ClassInstall32]. I have uninstalled and reinstalled enough times
that I am sure I have my system in a mess although I tried to remove every
reference to each install. I contacted Microtek and they were no help at
all. Please if you have any suggestions at all I would appreciate it. The
scanner has never been found and after each install I get the same message
"No Host Adapter(s) found. Please make sure that all cables are connected and
the unit is powered up"

It is a parallel port, but when you run install it installs a SMPLSCSI host
adapter which always has the yellow triangle and exclaimation mark. I changed
my BIOS settings to EPP.

Is this a parallel port, USB port or SCSI card scanner?

There is considerable debate whether or not Windows XP can
support a SCSI device through the parallel port, esp. with
a software SCSI emulator. And the answer is equivocal. Unless
someone is able to provide the voodoo formula to do it --- and
there are some --- it might be better to install a true SCSI
host adapter to use with the Microtek scanner. Or even consider
a SCSI-to-USB adapter.

XP does not allow the direct access to any hardware. You need to locate a
"specialized" parallel port dirver which would allow to direct access. I
just forgot the name.

Please let me know if you remember because I really don't understand what you
mean and I am desperate for a solution quick.

What has been written means that the parallel port cannot
behave as a SCSI host adapter and also that SMPLSCSI is not
able to get the parallel port to emulate a SCSI port. The
ultimate solution would be to install a true, hardware SCSI
host adapter to work with the scanner.
