No EtherNet light on router

I have a LinkSys BEFSR41 v1.0 router connect to RoadRunner and a Windows 98
SE computer.
I follow the setup instructions, which work fine. I restart the computer and
configure the router. This also works fine.
When I restart the computer again, the router shows no EtherNet lights and I
can't ping the router.

Any suggestions?

Try a new cable. Try a different PC. Check the output of IPCONFIG /ALL and
make sure the computer is being seen and recognized by the router. Check
the router's logfiles to see if any light is shed there.
