ICS Telstra Mobile Broadband

Hi,

I am having trouble setting up my Internet connection to allow sharing
over WIFI. My hardware is:

I have a Win 2000 Laptop with a USB port and Ethernet adapter. IP
192.168.1.100
I have a telstra USB mobile broadband adapter to connect to the
internet.
I also have a Linksys WRT54g router.

So what i would like to do is use the win2k laptop to connect to the
internet using the telstra wireless broadband USB adapter, share that
connection and plug my Linksys router into the laptop via ethernet to
allow other computers to connect to the internet i.e. through the
linksys router (either wired or wireless) ->Laptop-> telstra USB
device-> internet.

I have tried a few things, and unfortunately i do not have a linksys
setup guide available. The laptop can connect and get on the internet
fine. I plug the ethernet port on the laptop a LAN port (not Internet/
WAN) on the linksys router. But from here i cannot connect any other
computer through the linksys to the internet. The connection is made
and i can see the linksys router has assigned an IP to the client
computer but there is no internet connection available. Any ideas?

Do i need to setup the Linksys to say the gateway is the Laptop
computer (set gateway to 192.168.1.100) ? Should i be plugging the
laptop to the Internet port on the Linksys (when i do i can see the
wired IP address on the laptop is 169.xxx.xxx.xxx which im assuming is
incorrect).

Thanks

Simon

The laptop's Ethernet adapter should have an IP address of
192.168.0.1, which is automatically assigned when you enable ICS.

If you don't want to share files and printers between computers, you
can connect the laptop to the router's WAN port, and it will give
Internet access to other computers.

If you want to share files and printers between computers, connect the
laptop to one of the router's LAN ports, and disable the router's
built-in DHCP server. Other computers will then get their TCP/IP
configuration from ICS on the laptop.

You can pick up a router guide from the manufacturer's website.

You can set up Internet Connection Sharing on the laptop and plug it
into a LAN port on the router after switching the router's dhcp server
off

or

Plug it into the WAN port on the router and configure the router to
use the laptop as the Internet Gateway.

This option will isolate the laptop from the remainder of the network
so full file and printer sharing will not be possible. If you want
file and printer sharing use the other option.
