I am having a problem connecting to my home computer from my laptop
using remote desktop. I have a Linksys wireless router with the
desktop connected to the router and the laptop connected wirelessly. I
can connect to my desktop from the laptop using the IP address that
the router assigns, namely 192.168.1.100. However, I can't connect
when I use the IP address assigned to me by my internet provider,
Bresnan.

I am new to this and would appreciate any help.

When calling from a remote location you need to a) forward/open TCP Port
3389 in the Linksys router to the private LAN IP of the home computer and b)
call using the public IP address.

If your calling from a PC on the same LAN then many times using the
loopback, ie. calling the public IP of the router, will not work.

Thanks for the help. How do I forward/open TCP Port
3389 in the Linksys router to the private LAN IP of the home computer?

That depends on what model Linksys router you have. Ignore references to UDP
Port 3389 and only use TCP Port 3389...
