I plug in my flash drive, computer recognizes it. When I go to My Computer or
try to save anything to the flash drive - I don't see it. For instance, when
I plug it into another computer, says it is on drive F, or H or J or K.
Nada...I checked device manager - says everything is fine. Tried
uninstalling, reinstalling, everything fine. Tried updating driver, still
nothing. This is happening with LexarMedia flash drive and SanDisk Mini
Cruzer. HELP!

Open Disk Management via the applets in Control Panel. Look
for the USB flash drive with no drive letter. Highlight it and
have Disk Management assign it a drive letter. The USB drives
have to be identified and enumerated into the Windows Registry.

I have a similar problem. My XP no longer sees my flash drive, at all.
Other computers see the device and other devices work in this same USB
port. But not this USB flash device in this laptop.
In Administrative Tools>Computer Mangement>Disk Management, only the
Hard Drive and CD/DVD appear, no USB drive. What, aside from my USB
drive , am I missing?

Thanks,

Sonia

What helped me was to start in safe mode and start regedit and go to
Hkey_local_machine>system>current_control_set>and open SPTD>
and erase everything under SPTD. I've been struggling for weeks to find
this one by sampling different answers from the web.

You might need to right click and change your authorization to be able to
delete it.
I've been trying to erase the whole SPTD thing but I've not been able to do
that, but
erase the content is enough. i.e. what's under config and so on.
