USB driver missing?

Ok so, I have a Sandisk Cruzer Mini 1 GB. It works on everyone else's
computer except for mine. When I plug it into my computer, it starts up with
searching for new hardware, and finds it as a Cruzer Mini. However, it says
it can't find the correct software to install it.

I've tried uninstalling the flash drive itself, and it doesn't work
afterwards, still. According to everything that I've found, the driver is
supposed to be on XP, but it doesn't seem to be there. If anyone could help
me find a solution, I would be EXTREMLY happy. In case it matters, I have SP2
and a laptop.

According to the website, no drivers are required (from them). I suggest
putting it into another USB port.

I've already tried that. I have 3 usb ports on my computer and nothing still,
but the device does work on other computers.

Looonnnggg shot, but you have a USB2 device. Do you just have USB1 ports?
It should still work though - just slower.

I'm pretty sure that I have USB2 ports... I have an Acer Aspire 5000. I got
2(?) years ago.

Well that Got me closer... I deleted the file in the registry that it told me
to. Then I deleted the file i was said to delete. When I try to install the
hardware now, it now tells me that the cruzer mini has not passed the windows
logo test. I am being told that it can't copy usbstor.inf when it tries to
install the flash drive. Also, it can't copy usbimgm3.sys . So I tell it that
it is in C:\Windows\inf and it finds them. When it is done and over with, it
says that the usbstor.inf is written for windows 95 and then I'm back to
square one. Any suggestions?

Ok, I think I fixed it. I restarted my computer again and there its working
again. I dont' know what happened exactly, because my girlfriend's flash
drive stopped working on my comp before mine did, but then mine went to. Just
in case, would anyone know what kind of precautions I can take to avoid that
happening again?

The "XP asks for drivers" section does not tell you to remove a
Registry entry.
-----------------------------------------------
XP comes with drivers for USB mass storage. If it asks for drivers
then it has forgotten where they are...
Start the Registry Editor (Run -> Regedit). Check if under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion the item
'DevicePath' points to '%SystemRoot%\inf'. Additional items, separated
by semikolons, are ok but '%SystemRoot%\inf' has to be one of them.
Then delete the file C:\WINDOWS\inf\infcache.1 - XP will recreate it.

Yeah, basically. But go to that link and follow the regedit info... then
something else I did was plug in the flash drive and uninstall it. Then I
restarted and it worked.

So it is working now? If yesm I'm glad for you to get it working.
P.I.T.A. when some Windows functions do not work on a PC but works on
"others."
