No Disconnect Prompt

My disconnect prompt on closing IE has vanished. There is
a Registry fix for this in the Knowledge Base for earlier
IE versions, but not for 6.0.
I tried fixing by going to Control Panel|Network
Connections|etc. and checking the appropriate box to
enable the disconnect prompt, but the result was entire
deletion of my ability to connect to the Internet (had to
use System Restore to get back to an earlier version!).
