no disc in the dvd unit

I have an asus notebook a2s with Matshita UJDA 750 DVD/CDRW, the function
cdrw works but does not recognize a dvd disc( original movies dvd ). It gives
a messages of empty unit.
Windows xp home with the latest upgrade and one care.

This is usually a result if one of the lasers in the drive is broken. The
only solution for such a problem is to replace the drive.
