don't recognize dvd disc ( G: UNIT EMPTY)

I have asus notebook a2s with Matshita UJDA 750 DVD/CDRW, the function cdrw
works but does not recognize a dvd disc( original movies dvd ). It gives a
messages of empty unit.It always worked fine until now.
Windows xp home with the latest upgrade and one care.

DVD optical drives have two lasers, one for the CD side and one for the DVD
site. Sounds like the DVD laser has failed.
