can't copy files to CD

I am using Compaq Notebook nx9020 with Windows XP Home Edition, with CDRW/DVD
combo drive (make Philips).
I can't copy files to CD directly from Windows - it appears 'No disc
inserted', and the disc is in.
Also - when I put blank CD-RW in the drive - the Windows crashes.
