When I try to save data to a cd, I get a message that there's no disc in the
drive - this happens on both the CD and DVD drives. However, it does not
happen when I put a music disc in the drive. Why is the computer recognizing
the drives only when there is music on it? Is this even an XP problem? Dell
Dimension, Windows XP.

Dusty, try disconnecting one of the drives by unplugging the white
molex power connector. Try a different molex connector if available.
Also, can you burn a music CD? And not a Data CD?
