No Desktop Screen After Welcome Screen

First of all, my laptop( Compaq Presario 1200T) will boot up. Goes through
the motions . After the Welcome screen I was getting a message that said" A
fatal error has occured. Caused by Trojan- Spy. HMTL. Smitfraud.c System
cannot function in normal mode. Scan the PC with any available anti-virus/
spyware program to fix the problem. I used Stinger spyware. It found 1 virus.
After this I was still getting the blue screen error message for the Trojan.
So I downloaded the Microsoft Malicious Spyware Removal Tool. Scan the laptop
twice. Found no viruses. The Problem that I have NOW is when I boot the laptop
up. Goes through the motions. After I log on it goes to a screen that
yellowish. I can't see the desktop. When I ctrl, alt, del and go to task
manager. I can file, run new task and see my computer, the "C" drive. Any
help is greatly appreciated!!

Googling 'Trojan- Spy. HMTL. Smitfraud.c System':
