Hi, I have window XP, recently I installed Norton 360 and then I installed
perfect uninstall to remove one of the unwanted programs 'Kazaa media' which
I wasn't able to remove from add/remove programs. After that I restarted the
computer and the desktop, icons, everything is disapirad. I just see the
first page with windows XP and mouse does not move, I can not do right click,
I can not get task manager, i can do nothing. I tried to start the computer
on save mode also and did not work.
Could you please have any idea what to do on this case? Please help,
thank you very much

Here are two tips:

Tip #1

Desktop icons missing or disappeared
http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/desktop-icons-missing-or-disappeared/

Tip #2

Open the Registry Editor,
Open the Run box and enter: regedit

Go to this key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options]

Expand:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Microsoft
Windows NT
CurrentVersion
Image File Execution Options

If you see "explorer.exe" as a subkey below, delete it.

(Please report what worked or didn't)

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your respond.
No I cannot do anything, no right click, no ctrl+alt del. mouse does not move.

When i turn on the computer it looks like is starting up as a normal and
then it will stuck on first page when I just see only window xp. It is not on
that page yet when you can chose to click on your account. I tried to start
up on safe mode and happened the same thing

Thanks, Alba

I tried 'Last known good configuration’ and 'Safe Mode with a command
prompt'. None of these worked. Happen the same thing. I'm just a curious to
know the reason why that happens, what may cause that? Computer was working
fine before this happened. it was slower and sometimes frozenes but it was
working. Now it doesn't work at all. Please help. Any idea is really
appreciated.
Thanks,
Alba

Can you go into Safe Mode ?

If yes, perform a restore from a previous restore point from when the PC was known to
work.

Hi Dave,

How can I do that?

These are the only options on Windows Advanced Menu

Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with command prompt

Enable Boot logging
Enable VGA Mode
Last known Good Configuration (your most recent setting that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controls only)
Debugging Mode

Start windows normally
Reboot
Return to OS choices menu.

I have tried already three first safe mode, the three last options and also
the option last known configuration and it brings you on that page:
Please select the operating system to start:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
After I press enter and it goes to scan the desk and then it stuck on same
page.,
I cannot do right click, no Ctrl+Alt Del. There is no icons, no desktop, no
start bars

How can i clean the Pc to get them back?

Thanks

Thanks

So, if I understand you you can NOT go into Safe Mode without showing an empty desktop and
you can not hit the key sequence 'Ctrl+Alt Del'

You may consider your OS "hosed" and will require an OS reinstallation or repair
installation.

Suggestions :
1/ CHKDSK /R
Use the recovery Console and the command CHKDSK /R

2/ Recover the Registry
With the Recovery Console you have access to the SVI and then you can
get bach the hives from there. Explanations in french, but with a lot
of pictures http://fspsa.free.fr/cdr-svi.htm

Easier using a BARTPE or a Linux Live CD
http://www.ubcd4win.com

3/ Repare Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341

I have seen every of these solutions working for this situation.
Good luck.

That's very impressive, JF. Pronounce the patient CURED!, like certain
preachers do over a dying parishioner. Patient almost always dies.

You're a weasel. I see your game.
