No cursor on coming up from standby

Frequently, lately, when I jiggle the mouse to bring my XP up from standby,
the screen comes up Without a cursor. No amount of shaking the mouse reveals
a pointer, and I am left to restart from the tower "on" button.

Is there a better way to deal with this?

What type of mouse do you use and make of your pc?
Try to update the chipset drivers from the manufacturers website.

Here's what I would try:

- If the mouse is USB, open Device Manager, open the properties on each
USB Root Hub, click the Power tab, and deselect "Allow the computer to
turn off this device to save power".

- Try lowering graphics hardware acceleration slide. You can lower
graphics hardware acceleration in Display Properties, Settings tab,
Advanced button, Troubleshooting tab. If this helps, you could try a
different graphics card or updated drivers.
