Hi,

From time to time I get no cursor in the password area at login time
and consequently I am not able to login! The only workaround I found is
to stop and then start the computer.

Any idea?

If it's random, try a different mouse. Otherwise, got any startup
scripts running? You might try providing a bit more information about
your system and when the problem started.

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

Two of my computers have the same behaviour, nothing to see with the mouse.

Hmmm, I think that this behaviour appeared after automatic updates from
Microsoft!

I haven't seen that behavior here on any of my machines or on any of my
clients' machines, but each computer is different. If you truly think
the cause was a Windows Update, uninstall all the recent ones from
Add/Remove Programs ("Show Updates") and then test. If the problem has
disappeared, install only one update at a time, testing after each
install until you find the culprit. You might also post in the Windows
Update newsgroup after you do a Google Groups Advanced Search for
issues with the particular update that is causing your problem.

Ok, thank you so much for the advice. I will try to contact this
newsgroup ASAP.
