login problem

When attempting to log in after logging in and out a few times, the vertical
cursor in the login password field is not displayed and no input from the
keyboard is accepted. A reboot temporarily fixes the problem. Any
suggestions as to the cause and/or fix to this problem.

You could try doing Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to bring up the classic dialog box,
then enter the user name and password. Sometimes it will accept text input
there. Otherwise I don't have anything to suggest. This problem seemed to
surface last October or November, and I haven't seen any definitive
explanation for it or a solution.
