No Battery Detected

(My laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 w/ Windows Vista Ultimate)Vista states
that no battery was detected, yet i have one inserted. I've tried pulling it
out and putting it back in, even the BIOS settings detect no battery. When I
remove the power cable, it still runs off battery, but the battery light
turns red. Also, I am trying to upgrade my BIOS and as a requirement, you
must have your computer connected to the battery AND to the charger. Please
help!

Is it possible that your battery is old and just about dead? Since that
would easily explain the symptoms your are having.

I don't think it's too old. It's only 2 years old and before this happened it
still held a charge.
