no Authentication

I hope anyone can help. I am running windows 2000 server
and (9) windows XP PRO desktop systems. I have two network
cards in my server and I was running network sharing on
them. I have just removed network sharing and now I have
DHCP running on my server and the server pluged into the
hub. My router is pluged into the uplink port. My problem
is this Everyone can get an New IP Address but they cannot
authenticate to the server. (e-mail address removed)

Make sure that dhcp is disabled on the router and that the dhcp scope for
W2K server is configurd to issue dns address of your server to the XP
clients, assuming it is a domain controller which would need a static IP
address. Use ipconfig /all to verify that ip addresses are on the same
network which means the first three octets would be the same assuming a
class c adress is being used such as 192.168.1.xxx. If any addresses start
with 169, that would indicate that dhcp server may not be working correctly
and that computers are self issuing themselves IP addresses via APIPA. Try
to ping the server first by it's IP address and then name to verify basic
network connectivity and name resolution. Refer to the article below on dns
FAQ from Microsoft. --- Steve
