Windows XP Interact magnum6 joystick not interfacing with xp

i have a dell latitude D610 running xp and i recently purchased an interact magnum 6 joystick for it. my pc has no gaming port so i got a gameport to USB interface cable. but when i pluged it in nothing happend, my computer didint even reconize that anything was pluged in :(. i downloaded the joysticks drivers already.
