VCR hooked up to the computer through red, white and yellow cables like it
tells me to do in the documention. Im very confused about this.. I just
bought this computer just for the purpose of making DVD's from my home

How do you have the audio cables (red and white) connected to your computer?
You would normally have to use an rca to min plug converter to connect to the
input of your sound card to capture audio along with video.

Cables
One audio adaptor needed which has 1x3.5mm stereo plug to 2xRCA sockets.

The 3.5mm stereo plug of the adaptor goes into PC's sound card or TV card
audio-in 3.5mm socket, the two RCA plugs on the cable from the audio-out from
the VCR attach to the two RCA sockets of the audio adaptor.

Note: If using TV card you need to link TV card audio-out to sound card
audio-in with a 3.5mm stereo plug to 3.5mm stereo plug cable, a little cable
about 30cm long usually.

Capture Software
If using TV card you need to enable capture audio in the TV card capture
software or any generic capture software being used. Usually there is a
option somewhere to enable audio capture, tick or enable any such option if
found, some software even requires that this option be set in two locations
in the user settings, activate the capture audio option everywhere you find
the option.

In WMM2 Capture from Video Device
selected capture device, may have additional capture wizard.
select audio source use line-in, not aux line2-in, etc.
select audio device (on Hp PC's its often Realtek AC97 Audio)
some software will have an audio level meter, set it to green and watch
peak, don't go to red only orange, listen you should hear audio on PC
speakers or PC headphones which is comming from the VCR playing.

Good Luck
