WMM: Can't start Video Capture Wizard

Tried using Movie Maker (2.1) for the first time. When I try to capture
video, I don't get the Capture Wizard; the program just hangs up. I
searched Microsoft Help & FAQ pages. They say I should be able to locate the
Video Capture Wizard by running "regedit" and navigating to
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MM20\Video Capture Wizard].
I can find the MM20 folder, but it does not contain Video Capture Wizard.

The external interface I'm using is AVerTV USB MCE. It has an input slot
for RF (TV aerial). This works with Media Centre - I can get live TV on the
computer. The interface also has red/white/yellow slots for audio/video. I
have a cable with a SCART end going into my VCR. The other end of that cable
is the red/yellow/white bunch. This works - if I plug it straight into my
TV, I see (and hear) the video I'm playing. I want to be able to feed this
into my computer to record my VHS videos, ultimately to put them on to DVD.

Can anyone tell me how to get the Video Capture Wizard running?

Thanks,
Mary

This is your problem, MM is designed to work with camcorders connected by
firewire.

Capture using the mce software, convert to wmv and then edit,

Thanks for the suggestion, Graham.

I had already tried using DVR2WMV. I converted a video, and got good sound
but a scrambled picture. (Split into fuzzy columns.) However, there are a
lot of options in DVR2WMV, and I probably haven't yet found the right setup.
I'll try again, making a list of all the options and making sure I work
through them all systematically.

Thanks for the help,
Mary
