THIS IS A BIT LENGHTY, Sorry People.
Anytime I start my system from a shutdown state, when it gets into Windows I
get no audio. NONE. I always have to restart in order to regain all of my
mp3s and Wav file sounds. ALL video files play >visually< but NO audio can
be heard. This is something that has been going on for over a year now. After
I restart, everything is normal and fine. After a while, I just got used to
restarting as a regular thing to do.
This wierd problem has persisted thru different times of wiping the system
clean and reinstalling my OS (XP Pro) as well as upgrading my HDs. Added a
sound card as well. Those things weren't done >because< of the sound problem
BUT I have noticed, that after I've done those things the problem still
existed.
The error message that I get when I try to play mp3s OR Wav files with Real
One is--> "Cannot open the audio device. Another application may be using
it."
Windows Media Player--> "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because
there is a problem with your sound device. there might not be a sound device
installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it
might not be functioning properly."
When I open up "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" and try to play >ANY<
of the default Wav sounds I get this-->
"Windows cannot play the %SystemRoot%\media\Windows XP XXXX.wav file. The
file may be damaged or may use an unrecognized compression format. To resolve
this problem, replace the file or use Add/Remove Programs in Control
panel to install Audio Compression."
I've gone thru ALL of the troubleshooting suggestions that pops up, and none
works. Months ago I posted this problem and had no luck. I know the problem
lies somewhere within the hardware of the motherboard OR maybe BIOS but I
can't figure out why this thing does it. I'm about to upgrade to a new case
and motherboard/processor in the near future (P4 1.6ghz now) but I would LOVE
to know what my problem has been all of this time. IF anyone might have an
answer or suggestion, PLEEZ, send me some info. I've been ToTaLLy stumped by
this. THANX N ADVANCE. The Rookie/Wayne B.
