no audio after installing KB833846

I recently installed 3 security updates and 1 critical update plus the above
update for Windows XP Driver for Realtek AC 97 Audio. I have lost all sound
.... no system sounds, no sounds from CD, no audibles from Yahoo Messenger,
etc.

It will not allow me to backout the updated driver and I've tried all the
other suggestions I've seen in the threads.

Any new suggestions?

Thanks for the pointer to the driver. The combination of the new driver plus
resetting the BIOS from 'auto' to 'enabled' brought back my audio.
