No sound after Winxp update

Hi
I have a Laptop Acer,after the last update fo Winxpthe sound didn't work
here what I did & didn't work:
1-Unstall & reinstall the whole sound system & drivers
2-Updated the right drivers
3-go to controlpanel>sound&audio>there Voulme,sounds,Audio,Voice are not
highlighted &there are no devicees install,eventhough when ckeck the
speaker testing the sound is working.
3-Check DeviceManager there is no conflict at all

Open the Sound mixer and make sure nothing is muted or the sliders aren't
down to a minimum.

What update ?

I mean the Winxp regular upate through the internet(security,dirver..etc)
the soundmixer is not active(on top : No Device installed)I already did it
but the sound work on speakers testing( the ball goes around & round)

Put your XP CD into your drive. Don't let it start up.

Start > Run > type msconfig > hit enter > Expand File > follow the
instructions.

The file you're looking for is this one : sndvol32.exe

Expand it into c\windows\system32 overwriting if necessary.

Did that work ?

Hi Jerry I did exactly what u said,but it didn't work.
The winxp is built in,in this caseI run it from C:
is this make sence!!
