no active mixer devices

I get no sound in my computer. I went to volume control and i get a message
that says : There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer,
devices, go to control panel, click printers and other hardware, and then
click add hardware. But i have no cd that has that hardware. I also dont know
my sound card is. And also dvds wont play, i get this message: Windows Media
Player cannot play this DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed
on your computer. I dont know what to do, i need HELP!!!!

Balarc Advisor will tell you what sound device you have, if it is a stand
alone sound card get the drivers from the manufaturers site, if it is
intergrated the the drives should be found at the motherboard or
manufactureres (if it is some thing like a Dell or HP box) site.

You need to install a DVD decoder, one should have come with your DVD
player, possibly some thing like Power DVD.

For the DVD Decoder problem, you need to purchase full DVD playback software
(eg., Intervideo WinDVD or CyberLink PowerDVD) or you could purchase one of
the Media Player DVD plugins:
