W

Wayne D

"nLite is an all-in-one GUI utility that will give you the ability to
permanently remove unwanted components such as Internet Explorer, Outlook
Express, Media Player, MSN Explorer, MSN Messenger and a variety of other
components from your own Windows CD. This results in a slimmer Windows
CD, faster Windows installation, more hard disk space, and is also known
to free up RAM resources when using a cut-down version of Windows.

Once it has finish the removal of components of your choice, you are
given the option to create a bootable ISO of Windows XP which you can
test in a Virtual environment or burn straight to CD media. nLite also
includes an automated slipstreamer for slipstreaming a Service Pack on
the go. And best of all, its free!

New Changes in 0.98:

New Component removals: Application Layer Gateway, CTF Loader, DR Watson,
Extra Fonts, Internet Explorer Core, Roland SoundCanvas Sound Set, Shell
Media Handler, Telnet Server, Uninterruptible Power Supply, Wireless Zero
Configuration, Windows Media Codecs, and Web View.
New option: Classic Setup look.
New option: Uxtheme patch.
New page: Unattended setup.
Better setup files cleanup - slower.
Removed option: Higher compression of drivers.
Suspended component: Distributed Transaction Coordinator.

That's a little confusing. It'll strip out everything but requires .net FRAMEWORK.

That's true but remember, you can uninstall .net Framework.

Hmmm, how does it compare to the commercial 98lite and XPlite that
litepc.com put out?

As always,
Don't know. Haven't tried it. Let us know how it goes if you try it.

Well, actually, it's because I *do* use 98lite that I am interested in
seeing whether it is a freeware substitute. I'm very happy with 98lite
BTW, I run 98 with the 95 Explorer, which is slimmer and with less fat
than 98 Explorer.

nLite works differently to xplite, nlite removes files from the installation
of windows ,the unwanted parts are NOT installed in the first place,it also
mean that when you burn your new slim windows cd you have more room to include
your own programs on the windows cd.

Thanks for that. It sounds they do similar jobs but at different stages
of the Windows install process.
