Nightmare connecting to 2000 Domain!!!!

I have a network with 2-W2K Servers on a domain and multiple W2K Pro clients.
I just bought a new laptop with XP Pro, and I've tried high and low to get it
to join the domain. It refuses. It says Windows cannot find an account for my
computer on the domain (even though I've tried using accounts that I know are
there). It then gives me a message that the domain controller cannot be
contacted. Any suggestions? I'm going insane :p

Evan,

Joining a computer previously used in a peer-peer network (aka workgroup) is
sometimes tricky. DNS settings have to be made precisely.

Try:

1. Manually configure a compatible non conflicting IP address on the
laptop. Use the IP address of the DC running DNS as the Primary DNS server.

2. In AD Users and Computers, create a new computer account with the same
name as the name of the laptop.

3. Reboot the laptop, wait until you can ping the IP of the DC; then try to
join the domain.
