Cant join Domain

I am trying to join a W2k Server domain with a XP
Professional laptop.
However I am getting the message that the Domain
controller for the network could not be contacted. i can
ping the server from the laptop but I cannot ping the
laptop from the server. Also the laptop cannot ping itself.
Any ideas

One-way pings are almost always caused by an
incorrectly configured firewall.

Disable the XP firewall on the LAN connection
whilst connected to the domain. That should let
you connect to the domain.

If you are still having domain connectivity problems,
then check the DNS settings on the laptop.
The DNS needs to point to the domain's internal DNS server,
not an external ISP's one.

Remember to re-enable it if you use the LAN connection
for direct Internet access whilst on the road / in hotel rooms etc.

Thanks for that the firewall was the problem.
