Does anyone know when the next windows edition is fue to be released and
whats it going to be called?
Also is there any Microsoft sites that I can read up about it?

Keep in mind that "Longhorn" is only a working code name for the time being.
It will have a different name when they actually release it. When XP was in
beta/testing stages it was code named "Whistler"

Can I take this to mean that Longhorn's version of Windows Media Player will
be able to play DVDs without third-party plugins etc?

I'm not sure there is an answer to that question right now, as Longhorn is
still very early in the development cycle.

News about this sort of thing will no doubt start to circulate one the OS
hits beta, which is expected in 2004.

Nobody knows. A date hasn't been announced, and there are only
estimates. Most estimates put in sometime in 2006, and estimates
that far in advance are often wildly inaccurate.

Nobody knows, probably not even anybody at Microsoft. They'll
decide when they're ready.

Do a Google search on "Longhorn." That's its current code name
(*not* what it will be called when released).

I have heard from somewhere in Microsoft (I forgot where) that Windows Longhorn will be released (non-beta) in 2005.
