I used to have Microsoft in my newsgroup in Outlook
Express and I've been trying to set it up again (as well
as Windows XP) - when I attempt to download the
newsgroups - it says "unable to connect to server" even
tho Im on line.

The fastest way to setup a news account in OE is to click on a link to a
newsgroup and let OE automatically set itself up. To get to this current
newsgroup, click the following link:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers

If this works for you, I have a small list of MS newsgroup links here:
http://winsupportcenter.com/win5/supp1b.htm
and a complete list here:
