newsgroup attachment problems

First, i'm new to using outlook for newsgroups. And havent been on
newsgroups in ages. So keep that in mind if this all sounds over the
top stupid.

Not wanting to pay for a newsreader i tried outlook, since i have it
already.

I selected the list of files i wanted to have, 1 thru 100 parts
(example) plus the pars.

They seemed to dl fine. The was mystified that there wasnt a way i
could find to dl attachments into a folder and extract them easily.

The only thing i could think of is the 'save as' option, which i did.

It downloaded a 180 + mb file (which seemed the correct file size btw)
to my harddrive. But as
an "internet news message", which i cant seem to figure out what i do
with. Then i tried it another way, redoing every step i did before,
this time it dl'd them as an "internet email message". same result
however.

Whats needed to dl files onto my HD and join the parts as one complete
file using outlook?

You should be using Outlook Express as your news reader.

Sorry, should of mentioned I'm using Outlook Express... Which as i
looked thru the various groups, i found there was a group for Outlook
express. Although no one seems to have an answer there as yet.

Outlook doesn't "do" newsgroups without a third-party NNTP add-in. When you
read newsgroups with the "Outlook Newsreader", you're actually using Outlook
Express started with the /outnews command line switch.

Please be precise in describing how you configured things and state exactly
what you did to have this happen.
