News Reader in Vista?

I understand that Outlook Express will be dropped from Vista.

What news reader will be available?

Outlook Express has been replaced by Windows Mail. It does do newsgroups.
In fact it really is OE6 with a new shirt on and a few extra pockets.

Windows Mail comes with Windows Vista. I think it's just a new version
of Outlook Express and they have changed the name. It is very simmilar
to Outlook Express. And it has a built-in support for Microsoft news
groups, which means you can use additional features when you subsribe
to Microsoft newsgroups with Windows Mail.

But, it starts quite slowly on my Core 2 DUO with 2GB ram. I remember
Outlook Express started really fast on my old PC.

Of course some of those extra pockets have holes in them. And some of the
old pockets have new holes.

There is never a seamstress around when you need them :)

I use Microplanet Gravity. Thunderbird works as well. Windows Mail will
act as a Usenet client.

Frankly that should have been it's name from day one. There was
eternal confusion amongst the masses when it came to Outlook and
Outlook Express.

Most users of the latter didn't know the former existed, and called it
by the formers name, often confusing others who knew both.....

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.

Good choices.

All be it a poor one.

I myself use Forte Agent (and Thunderbird depending on circumstance).
I've been a fan of Agent for years. It's the "Swiss Army Knife" of
Newsreaders.

I still get lost in the interface after all these years. :0)

I am looking forward to the Penelope project which is a hybrid of
Thunderbird and Eudora.

40tude Dialog is sort of an Agent clone except it is free.

either that, or they could have left it with it's original name, up until
version 3 it was known as Mail and News.

Yep. That should be interesting. Eudora (Light) was the first Email
client I ever used (not counting AOHell). I liked it so much I paid
for the full version.

Then I fell and hit my head and got sucked into Outlook (not OE.. just
"O") for several years till Thunderbird rescued me. :)

LOL :)
Seriously though Thunderbird as a newsreader is total trash. Its partially
there with the extension "Newsworthy" but still falls way short of my needs.
When Mozilla fix the bugs with the newsreader then I will use it.

Further to that, its actually the lack of decent newsreader (*decent IMO)
that stops me from sticking with linux. I keep trying Ubuntu but always
come back to Windows because of a lack of newsreader to suit my tastes
9amongst other reasons).

Yup. I'm famlliar with it.

Pan is another one.

I never got into Eudora because it never had a newsreader. I am one of the
few who prefer an all in one program rather than seperates.
