Newbie needs help with Mike????

Hi,
got a fairly new comp with onboard sound, running windows XP, my mike has
been working in the past, but feel that I have lost a setting somewhere,
where can I go to reconfigure and choose a default player.

Try double clicking on the speaker icon on the lower right hand corner of
the task bar.
Click on Options, then Properties, then Recording.
Make sure the microphone is checked and then click OK. Make sure the volume
setting on the microphone is up.
Then try recording..
