HELP: cant get mike & earphone to work

Jimmy Hsu

I am using Win XP Home Edition with a Creative Audigy Sound Card. I bought
a microphone cum earphone combo and plugged it into the Sound Cards jacks,
Green for earphones and Pink for Mike. However, when I play a sound file,
I cannot hear any sound from the Earphone. Instead the sound is still heard
through my Altec Lansing pair of speakers. How do I re-route the sound from
the speakers to the earphone. Do I need install some driver.

I also couldnt record my own speech using the microphone. How to I set the
mike. Do I need to install a driver. Odd that the mike/earphone that I
bought didnt come with any CD driver disk. Thks for advice to this newbie.
Regards

Hi Jimmy,

Where are the speakers plugged in? Can't you pull the speakers out and plug
in the green jack there?

Some PCs have the sound part as integral to the motherboard so dispensing
with the need for the installation of a sound card. If a sound card is
fitted to same computer then you will have both outputs - but only one may
be selected. The Audigy sound card should have a driver and once that
driver is installed you should be able to go in via the control panel /
device manager and tell the PC which sound device to use (generic
motherboard or installed card).

I hope that this helps.

Quite so. My MSI mother board does have Audio chips onboard. But as the
onboard audio chip's Sound is mediocre, I opted to install the better
quality Creative Audigy card. I have disabled the Onboard Audio chips via
BIOS setup (durign Boot-up) and routed all audio thru' the Audigy card. The
card works fine with my Altec Lansing 2+1 Speakers system (ie 1 Midrange and
1 Woofer) giving excellent quality audio. However, I cant seem to get it to
work with my microphone and headphone. As a result I cant use Skype to chat
with friends.
