Need help with Emachines T2542

(I posted this separately over at alt.computer)

Been working on a T2542. I did a clean install of XP Home, couldn't get the
onboard AC97 sound to work. Got the drivers from the Emachines website for
the T2542. Made sure onboard sound was enabled in BIOS. Drivers show to be
there, device says working properly, but my audio properties are all grayed
out in XP's audio device manager, so something is amiss. To make matters
worse, when I try to uninstall the AC97 program from Add and Remove
programs, the computer immediately reboots during the very first part of the
uninstall.

Anybody want to help me troubleshoot this mess?

thankyou,

jm

I wonder if you could tell me where the emachine site is so that I could
download some drivers for a friends computer.

Cheers if you could.

Thanks for the link and the sarcasm.

I did look for the link, but as you could tell I did not look in the right
place.

Thanks

No problem. I've never seen an emachine as (AFAIK) they're not sold in NZ.
When you asked for the URL I thought "I bet it's www.emachines.com" and sure
enough it was. Often these things are blindingly obvious. The sarcasm is
free by the way, no need to thank me. I just couldn't resist it after typing
that into the browser and being right first time. It often seems to me that
people lack inititaive (not meaning you in particular) and want someone else
to do the leg work for them.

You're welcome.
