New XP Security Updates

I recently installed the 823559 & 817606 Security updates
realeased by M$ and immediately after installation noticed
that my hard drive or something began clicking every few
seconds. I restarted the machine several times to no
avail and eventually decided to rollback the machine to
before the updates. NOTE - before installing any M$
updates I always make a restore point now. After I rolled
back the machine the problem stopped.

My question>? Does anybody have any idea exactly what
these updates are SUPPOSED to do and why they might affect
my hard drive?

you should be able to go to the knowledgebase and input
the numbers and find out what they do I am loading them
now to see if I get clicking.

I just installed these and rebooted with no problems and no
abnormal drive access.
For the record they can be uninstalled so a restore point is
probably not required.

I have installed 823559 without noticing any such effect.

You can look up what they do at
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;823559
and so on. This one appears to relate to attacks that *might* arise
from a malicious web page - so is worth it. The other relates to
attacks on servers, and the third one that is out relates to a person
who is allowed limited rights to logon giving himself full control: It
is only relevant to a company needing to protect against possible
disaffected employees. So I do not intend to install them on a personal
machine.
