Joel, you will have to purchase a retail version of XP Home if want to
reinstall it on your computer. Did the computer come with XP installed on
it? If yes, give the make and model.

You shouldn't/wouldn't unless you are a Technet or MSDN subscriber.

Windows XP Home Edition, if it came with your computer or was purchased
later, should be on a CD (or - for some OEMs - on a recovery partition of
the hard disk drive.) You should have said CD (or recovery partition) in
your possession and likely should have made a backup copy of it for safe
keeping (as well as the other pertinent information - like the product key.)

Did you lose yours (lose the CD, erase the recovery partition, not make a
backup copy, cannot read/no longer have the product key?)

yes it did. its a dell demension 2400. it has the xp code sticker on the
tower. was hoping i could download the program and still use that code?

sorry for the confusion. i lost the cd that came with the computer when i
bought it but it still has the product key sticker on the tower.

Seeing elsewhere in this conversation, you state this is a Dell - you can
try and contact them for a replacement CD - or if you have a
friend/relative/neighbor/co-worker/etc who has a generic OEM version of the
Windows XP Home Edition CD - this should work with your product key -
although your best bet is contacting Dell.

(Make a backup copy of the CD when you do get one this time. I like to tape
them inside the computer case itself - for safe keeping.)

No confusion on my part... I just gave what information I could based on
what you had given so far. ;-)

I have used the URL Leroy provided several times to order system CDs from
Dell. You have to be the registered owner of the PC and can order it on
line.
